Friendship Stone Rock Painting
Materials Needed
- Small, smooth round rock (fits in one hand)
- Yellow acrylic paint
- Orange acrylic paint
- Pink acrylic paint
- White acrylic paint
- Black acrylic paint (for text and details)
- Fine detail brush
- Medium flat brush
- Clear sealant spray
- Pencil
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Paint the warm sunrise background
Wash and dry your small rock. Paint the entire surface with a warm yellow base. While still slightly wet, blend orange toward the edges and pink toward the bottom for a sunrise gradient effect. These warm colors symbolize warmth, happiness, and connection — perfect for a friendship stone.
Step 2: Add two connected hearts
Using pink paint and your fine brush, paint two small overlapping hearts in the center of the rock. They should be interlinked or touching — symbolizing the bond between friends. Outline them with a darker red or magenta to make them stand out against the warm background.
Step 3: Add cheerful dot and star details
Using white paint and a toothpick, dot small stars and circles around the hearts radiating outward. These suggest energy, joy, and the sparkling quality of true friendship. Add a few small pink hearts scattered around the background for extra joy.
Step 4: Write "FRIENDS" or a friendship message
Using a fine brush and black or dark paint, write a short message on the rock: "FRIENDS", "BFF", "YOU + ME", or just a name. Position it below the hearts. Alternatively, write it in a curved arc around the top or bottom of the rock for a badge-like effect.
Step 5: Seal with gloss finish
Once everything is fully dry, apply a gloss sealant for a shiny, cheerful finish that makes the colors pop. Friendship stones are meant to be given as gifts — the gloss finish makes them look precious and special.
Step 6: Add RoxGeo Code
On the bottom or back of your rock, write ROXGEO.COM followed by a slash and your rock’s unique code (e.g. ROXGEO.COM/ABC123). This lets the finder go directly to your rock’s profile page and log their discovery. If the rock is too small for the full address, write #ROX followed by the code without spaces (e.g. #ROXABC123) — it’s short, easy to search on Google, and leads straight to your rock’s journey page. Use a fine-tip permanent marker or acrylic paint pen, and seal it with clear varnish so the code stays readable through rain, sun, and adventure.
Helpful Tips
- A small rock that fits perfectly in the hand is ideal — it's easy to keep and carry.
- Yellow and orange sunrise colors convey warmth and joy, perfect for expressing friendship.
- Two overlapping hearts are a universal symbol of connection and are easy to paint neatly.
- Give the friendship stone as a gift with a personal note about what that friendship means to you.
- Paint a matching pair of friendship stones — one for each friend to keep.
- For the RoxGeo code on the bottom, use a waterproof permanent marker (like Sharpie) or an acrylic paint pen. Apply 2–3 coats of clear sealant over the code — this keeps it readable through rain, sun, and handling for months.
- Writing #ROXCODE (e.g. #ROXABC123) on your rock makes it easy to find via Google search. We actively optimize for this hashtag, so anyone who searches for it will find your rock’s profile page quickly.
- The full address ROXGEO.COM/CODE takes the finder directly to your rock’s card, where they can see its full travel history, previous finders, and photos from every stop on its journey.
